Ditch the fragrances and switch to pure plant oils!

Are you a scent-a-holic? haha. If you're not...I bet you know someone who is. Take a mental tour of your home and think about the products you use. Almost always…if you are using a product that is scented…it is made with synthetic fragrance. They may seem harmless but synthetic fragrances are dangerous and can have serious effects on the body. The word “fragrance” encompasses over 3,000 chemicals that are used in perfumes and personal care products. Studies show migraines, hormone imbalance, respiratory issues, thyroid dysfunction, skin irritations, infertility, can be linked to these chemicals. The government does require companies to list the ingredients of cosmetics, but allows them to simply lump fragrance chemicals as “fragrances." These chemicals that are being absorbed, inhaled, and ingested daily by Americans. More than 95 percent of the chemicals in synthetic fragrances are derived from petrochemicals—some of which are cited on the EPA’s hazardous waste list. Ew.

Even without scientific evidence, I saw a difference in my health when I eliminated these things in my home. Candles used to be a staple but now I diffuse essential oils instead. Ugh! I wish I would have known! Now, it's very difficult for me to sleep on sheets washed in Tide and Downy or walk into a Bath & Body Works store. That fragrance is like a punch in the face! haha. Things that used to smell amazing and comforting...now my body completely rejects.

So now what??

Look around your home or workspace and ask yourself...what can you get rid of that is harmful? What can I replace it with?
